So, speaking is considered as the second language skill that defined as the action of conveying information or expressing one’s feelings in speech. However, most speakers may face the problem of lack of fluency while speaking which leads to the occurrence of a phenomenon known as The Code-Switching. What is the code switching? Have you ever heard about it? Have you experienced it before? So let us discuss this in more detail.

First and foremost, the code-switching is a widespread phenomenon in bilingual communities where speakers use their mother tongue or (L1) and their second language (L2) in different domains. Before that let, define the term “Code-Switching”. Therefore, it is a phenomenon, which occurs when someone substitutes a word or phrase from one language to another language. In other words, it is the process of shifting from a language to another depending on the conversational setting. As an illustration, let us see those examples:

I do not think so, essaie de nouveau.

In this example, we notice that the first part is in English and the second part is in French. As we notice the speaker switching between the two sentences in the sense that each sentence is in different languages.Another example,

I don ‘t have a topic précisé, but I’m thinking about chose Scientifique.

The meaning of this sentence is I do not have a precise topic, but I ‘m thinking about something scientific.
In this case, the sentence can be viewed as a kind of mixing two languages without a change in the topic or the setting

In addition, the code switching is in bilingual communities may be used in order to build intimate relationships among members of a bilingual community. However, there are controversial views concerning this phenomenon.
On one hand, they are whom view the code-switching as a bad process that leads the people to lose their identities. On the other hand, some individuals considered the code-switching as a way to communicate more productively with people who may not share the same cultural background.

Finally, the code–switching is important while speaking. It helps us to convey a particular thought more effectively, it can suit the atmosphere with people you talk to.
